I really love identities that have a bit of personality or soul to them. Sotto is a new italian restaurant, based on the idea of malfatti, not cooking to perfection - directly meaning “poorly made”. A strange name for a restaurant, but never the less, the designers have taken that concept through to the way they constructed the logo and type, by tracing and painting authentic Italian futurist typefaces (Block Berthold, Bureau Grotesque, ITC Caslon 224, and Jenson).
Overall the identity feels warm, rustic and definitely Italian. It’s also lovely to see so much of the process, and the Identity Designed blog has a whole bunch of photos.
